NASA Administrator to Speak at the Space Generation Congress 2010

Vienna, Austria, July 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The head of NASA will deliver the closing speech to the university student and young professional attendees of SGC 2010, the only international conference dedicated to the next generation of space leaders. Administrator Bolden will also have the opportunity to meet the attendees and to hear their perspectives on five pertinent space topics which they will have discussed over the course of the three-day Space Generation Congress.

SGAC’s Chair, Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, expressed her enthusiasm on behalf of the organisation when she said, "We are honoured to have Administrator Bolden speak at our conference. The fact that he has chosen the Space Generation Congress as a venue to address the international body of young space enthusiasts makes all of us here at the Space Generation Advisory Council extremely proud. Having him join our SGC programme stands as further proof of the value of youth contributions to the global space sector. This is particularly true as we sit at this turning point in the human development of space."

Administrator Bolden will join Dr. Dumitru Prunariu, Romanian astronaut and Chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS), and Dr. Berndt Feuerbacher, International Astronautical Federation President, as SGC 2010’s featured lecturers.

In addition to speakers, SGC’s programme includes working groups in which attendees will debate one of five topics:

1. Industry – The New, Increased Role of Industry in the Space Sector
2. Agency – Terrestrial Applications for Space Technology: Exploring the Practical Challenges of International Collaboration on Space Systems
3. Climate – Challenges of the Procurement and Use of Earth Observation Data: From Traditional Remote Sensing to Community Remote Sensing
4. Exploration – Human Space Exploration: Technical, Societal, Legal and Political Challenges
5. Outreach – Development of Science and Technology Education and Careers for the New Generation

Conclusions and recommendations from these international university students and young professionals are compiled and shared throughout the following year at the United Nations, at conferences, and with SGAC’s network, alumni, and partners.
