New Novel by Todd Shorack Puts Youthful Spin on Life of a Modern-Day Theodore Roosevelt; Released by Dog Ear Publishing
Tecmecula, CA, July 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A 12-year-old boy finds a pair of riding boots and an Army hat worn in the Spanish-American War while rummaging in his grandparents’ attic. The clothes, which fit him perfectly, introduce Ted Rozock to his great-grandfather and the famous man he fought beside in Cuba – Theodore Roosevelt. Ted immerses himself in the writings of Roosevelt after a teacher suggests that he present a speech as the Rough Rider for a history competition.
In the Hero in the Mirror, published by Dog Ear Publishing, Ted assumes the character of the hero he portrays and acts boldly in his own life and times. As the seventh-grader mirrors Roosevelt’s success, he attracts the attention of a large number of girls and one large bully. He also gains powerful allies as he promotes a vision to celebrate his hero’s birthday. Along the way, Ted faces the challenges of everyday life as a junior high student and learns important lessons outside the classroom.
Author Todd Shorack grew up in an Air Force family and graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasdena, California. He is married with two sons. He was inspired to write this story when family members cleaning a grandparent’s attic found antique military clothing that fit his son.
