Bee Control Pittsburgh Warning Yellow Jackets Are Not for Wearing
Yellow jackets have arrived in Pittsburgh. Bee Control Pittsburgh is the premier company for insect removal, extermination and prevention.
Pittsburgh, PA, July 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Bee Control, Pittsburgh’s leading company dealing with the prevention, control and removal of stinging insects, is now tackling the arrival of yellow jackets.
Yellow jackets (also referred to as ground bees) are now making their increasing presence felt in yards and homes in the Greater Pittsburgh area and the staff at Bee Control are responding to calls for yellow jacket removal. As many people may be aware, yellow jackets are one of the most vindictive insects when it comes to attacking and inflicting painful stings, not only to humans but also pets.
During August and September yellow jacket colonies will reach populations of up to 2,000 insects in each nest, with each yellow jacket capable of stinging their victim repeatedly if disturbed. Nests are constructed underground, in trees and shrubs, on buildings and perhaps the most unsettling, inside the walls, ceilings and attics of people’s homes. Signs of an infestation include seeing the insects coming and going from a common entry point in the ground or at points on your home, the building of a gray papery nest on branches, light posts, window corners and other areas on or near your home, scratching noises from within the walls or ceilings and/or discolored areas or spots that look “wet” on walls or ceilings. Yellow jackets are notorious for “chew-throughs” where the colony, as it continues to grow, chews away paper, cardboard, wood, and even drywall to make room for the rapidly growing colony, often leaving only a thin layer of paper or paint.
If you believe you have a yellow jacket colony in or around your home:
- Do not try to close up the entrance of the colony, the insects will panic and spread throughout the home.
- Do not spray the colony from the outside, as it will force the insects further into your home, often into the living space.
- Do not use gasoline, kerosene or any other explosive product to “burn out” the colony.
- Do not poke or touch any discolored or wet spots on walls or ceilings, as breaking the barrier will agitate the aggressive insects.
If yellow jackets have already chewed through a wall, try to cover the opening with a piece of cardboard and tape to secure the opening or close all doors to the room if possible and seal the bottom with a towel.
Do contact Bee Control at 1-866-4NO-BUZZ (1-866-466-2899) or visit www.beecontrolpittsburgh.com for 24/7 emergency service or to schedule an appointment that meets your needs.
