Stockport Couple Become Charity Trustees
Manchester, United Kingdom, July 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Cheadle Hulme couple Geraldine and Philip Eagle have become Greater Manchester cancer charity CALL’s newest trustees, having learned about the vacancy when attending CALL’s annual Gala Concert at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Geraldine, who is originally from Glasgow but moved to Greater Manchester when she was 18, will work alongside CALL’s Karen Mercer in fundraising and raising awareness of the charity.
Philip joined the board of trustees in the role of accountant.
Geraldine comments: “I previously worked as a care manager for Christies, but left when my daughter was born. Having lived through cancer myself and worked with people who have had cancer are experiences I can bring with me to this role and help me to understand how to speak to clients, volunteers and fundraisers, and see their points of view.
“Philip and I were eager to support CALL due to the help the charity gave us when I was ill in 2003. The volunteers took me to hospital appointments and cooked some of our meals to allow Philip to go to work and look after our four year old daughter.”
Philip adds: “Caring for our four year old daughter and a very sick partner was very difficult, but I knew that help was only a phone call away. I decided I wanted to give something back to CALL by using my tax and accounting knowledge to help the charity.”
Tom Brown, CALL president, says: “Geraldine is a great asset to CALL and brings with her a great understanding of the charity as well as personal experiences which put her in touch with our client base. Our trustees are very important to us as they ensure that CALL complies with charity and employment law, is sustainable as an organisation and financially viable.
“Already Geraldine is busy speaking to schools in Stockport to see if we can link up with them for a non-uniform day, which is a great start to her role!”
CALL offers emotional and practical support for people who have and have had cancer and also those living with the effects of the disease, such as families, friends and carers. Where possible, the charity also offers support for those with other long term illnesses.
