UKAS Has Recommended That CICS Receive Accreditation to Provide EU ETS Verification for Aviation
UKAS has recommended that CICS receives accreditation to provide EU ETS verification for aircraft operators
Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom, July 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- CICS (Complete Integrated Certification Services Ltd) is pleased to announce that it is one of the first verification bodies to be recommended to receive accreditation by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) to provide Greenhouse Gas verification of tonne/kilometre & emissions data for aircraft operators under the EU ETS Scheme.
The aviation sector has been included in Phase III of the EU ETS Scheme; from January 1st 2010 until December 31st 2010 aircraft operators will have to monitor their emissions and then have these emissions independently verified prior to submission of reports by 31st March 2011. In addition, if they wish to apply for free carbon allowances under the Scheme they will be required to submit verified tonne kilometre data.
As one of the leading GHG verifiers in Europe and North America and having verified over euro 7 billion worth of EU ETS emissions to date, CICS will be drawing upon its vast experience of the EU ETS regulations to make the verification process as efficient and cost-effective for airlines as possible.
Shaun Bainbridge, a director at CICS, commented: "Our experience in EU ETS verification is unrivalled. What’s more, we’ve got a long track record in aviation verification, having worked with international carriers to monitor their emissions, and we recently undertook dedicated training with IATA’s Training & Development Institute. It’s important that the verification process is started as early as possible. That way, any problems with data collection and monitoring can be ironed out well in advance, ensuring that fines for late reporting are avoided."
