MoneyTree Idea eXchange (MIX) –Mainstream Online Buzz (MOB) Challenge
The third session of MIX which is sponsored by the graduates of Maybank-MoneyTree Young Entrepreneur Startup Challenge challenged participants to come up with an online game to attract more users on the social media platform.
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, July 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The MoneyTree Idea eXchange (MIX) – MOB Challenge saw 5 teams battling it out against each other intensely for a chance to grab a Cash Prize of RM 1,500. This is also a very special session of MIX as a new company is launched.
Mainstream Online Buzz (MOB) is the second company Su Zhen and Jolene has started at the tender age of twenty. MOB is an online platform that connects social media users with brands and products. MOB also builds online communities of social media users from different interest groups in which companies can engage virally to create online buzz, market research and ultimately build a central virtual warehousing system via social media.
In the opening speech by CEO of MoneyTree Malaysia, Mr. Brandon Liew expressed, “We can’t be prouder to have graduates of Maybank- MoneyTree Young Entrepreneur Startup (YES) Challenge to be the sponsor of this session of MIX. This is exactly what we hope for through our Entrepreneurship Programmes, to nurture youths to realise their business ideas into profitable ventures. These two girls have shown determination and hard work in establishing their business.”
Su Zhen and Jolene Sim Hui Ching, who are not only good looking young ladies, are also ambitious business women in their business plans. According to Jolene, “Hundreds of college students are getting into college every semester. This is an active population that uses social media online. The number of this population is so big that we are able to spot an opportunity to harness their voices and opinions social media sites. We actually did some data collection and tabulation of their likes and comments and find this information to be very useful for companies. We are targeting 300 000 users, known as Mobsters by the end of the year.”
MOB has already been holding an online competition known as World Cup 2010 Champions League, in which participants made predictions of results in the football matches during FIFA World Cup 2010. Out of the nearly two thousand online users, the top players were presented with special prizes including two iPhone 4 during this MIX session.
Participants who got to walk away with movie tickets are: Melvin Chan, Joshua Ooi and Mic Law. The grand prize winners who became proud owners of the latest iPhone 4 are Danial Fahmi and Shazwan Nazrin.
In this challenge, participants are required to suggest or create online games which will bring about buzzes to the users of social media. During the Q & A session, the teams had 5 minutes to defend their business ideas against the scrutiny of the judges.
Judges for this challenge were Ms Jolene Sim Hui Ching (Co-founder of MOB) Mr Vincent Kok (Chief Operating Officer, Creative Advances Technologies) and Mr Neil Walter (Entrepreneur).
Joan Dee, a student from Taylor’s University College stood out among all others for presenting an excellent idea of running a short campaign of only 3 months that provides plenty of opportunities for youths to win freebies with minimal effort.
MIX is a monthly event which also serves as a platform for organizations to identify TOP talents within Universities and Colleges. The next session of MIX will be held on the 19th of August which will be exciting as always.
