Pacific Ridge School Receives Major Grants for Science Program and Tuition Assistance
To Help Fulfill Its Mission of Preparing Students for College and a Purposeful Life, the Carlsbad Independent School Receives Grants from William H. Donner Foundation and Lupe Murchison Foundation.
San Diego, CA, July 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Pacific Ridge School, a non-profit, independent middle and upper school in Carlsbad with a mission to foster academic excellence, ethical responsibility, and global engagement, gratefully accepts a grant award for its science program from the William H. Donner Foundation, as well as a tuition assistance grant from the Lupe Murchison Foundation.
William H. Donner Foundation Grant
The New York-based William H. Donner Foundation abides by two key philanthropic principles of its founder: acceptance of clearly defined risks and the judicious use of incentive grants to advance thoughtful, creative projects. To that end, Pacific Ridge School received a generous, $20,000 donation from the Donner Foundation to contribute to the purchase of equipment for four new, state-of-the-art science laboratories. The labs will provide equipment needed to support Pacific Ridge’s college-preparatory science curriculum in physics, biology and chemistry, and including Advanced Placement classes. The laboratories are part of the school’s campus expansion and its commitment to environmental sustainability and receiving gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The new high school building featuring the science laboratories will be revealed in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 31, 2010.
Lupe Murchison Foundation Grant
Pacific Ridge School also received a $25,000 Tuition Assistance grant from the Texas-based Lupe Murchison Foundation, an organization committed to administering the funding of programs that provide educational benefits to children.
“It would give Lucille Murchison, the founder of the Foundation, great pleasure to know a child can now attend a school that he or she may not have otherwise been able to attend,” said Mark Mitchell, a representative from the Foundation. “Pacific Ridge School stands out because we can sense the students’ passion for being here and we see that the faculty, led by the Head of School, Dr. Eileen Mullady, truly knows and cares for the students and their families.”
