Ward 5 City Council Candidate Kenyan McDuffie Wins No.1 Spot on the Democratic Primary Ballot
Washington, DC, July 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Kenyan McDuffie’s campaign for the Ward 5 Council seat heightened after receiving word that his name will be No.1 on the ballot in the September 14 Democratic primary. Last Friday, the DC Board of Election and Ethics (BOEE) pulled each candidate’s name out of a hat during its lottery to determine ballot position.
“I was elated when I found out my name was randomly selected first by the Board of Elections,” Kenyan enthusiastically stated. “Being No. 1 on the ballot definitely intensifies my urgent need to fill the void in council leadership in Ward 5 and underscores what Ward 5 voters are already saying: there is no need to look any further than Kenyan McDuffie for a positive alternative to the status quo.”
On July 19, the deadline to file a challenge to a candidate’s nominating petitions, one of Kenyan’s opponents challenged the validity of his nominating petitions. The BOEE flatly denied the challenge on July 22.
“It’s good to know that, despite challenges, I am one step closer to providing stronger, more proactive leadership in a Ward that has not received its fair share of resources,” said Kenyan. “I possess just the right balance of public service and professional experience to ensure that Ward 5 residents are well-represented on the DC Council and better served by their government.”
