.NET Developer Software Charity Auction for African Country
Several software companies are auctioning off their products for the Wells for Zoe charity. The proceeds will go to benefit water conditions in several remote areas in Northern Malawi.
Washington, DC, December 19, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Thycotic Software, a Microsoft Gold certified partner, has teamed up with several other ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) to donate products for the Wells for Zoë charity. All of the proceeds from the auction will go to improve water conditions in the country of Malawi.
Created in 2005, Wells for Zoë is an Irish registered charity whose mission is to provide safe drinking water and proper irrigation in very remote rural communities in northern Malawi. The .NET developer auction will contribute to the charity's efforts of building an economic foundation for the people of Malawi.
“We don’t need huge funding for our day to day programmes, as labour is very cheap and much of our funding will be recycled to other villages going forward,” says John Coyne, founder, Wells for Zoë. "Our big cost at the moment is building and equipping the pump workshop."
Thycotic is donating a 10-user license of their web-based password management utility, Secret Server 2.0. Jamie Cansdale of TestDriven.NET has pledged 3 MSDN Premium Subscriptions with Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite for the auction. SourceGear, TypeMock, devExpress, Syncfusion and Sky Software are the other companies involved in the live auction.
Malawi is a poverty stricken country located in southern Africa. The life expectancy is 41 years and the mean per capita income is less than $1/day.
Other facts:
14.2% of the population are HIV positive
Home for over a million orphans
Major infectious disease include:
- Hepatitis A, typhoid fever and malaria
"As the founders we pay all expenses, so all donations go directly to the programmes, where it makes an unimaginable difference," says Coyne.
The auctions for these items can be found on eBay. The deadline to bid is December 21, 2006.
