St. Rose Hospital Selected for a State-Wide Clinical Study
Hayward, CA, August 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- St. Rose Hospital (SRH) has been selected by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to participate in a three year State-wide Elective Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) pilot program, allowing the Hospital to perform Non-Emergency PCI.
PCI, also known as angioplasty, is recognized as a critical interventional procedure for individuals suffering a heart attack due to blockage in the arteries. While St. Rose Hospital has been performing Emergency PCI since its designation as a Cardiac Receiving Center for Alameda County, current California law prohibits hospitals from performing Elective or Non-Emergency PCI without an on-site open heart surgery program. Under this pilot program, St. Rose will be able to perform Elective PCI as part of a clinical study established under Senate Bill 891.
“Being selected to participate in this state-wide pilot program further demonstrates the Hospital and Board’s commitment to cardiovascular care,” states Michael Mahoney, President and CEO of St. Rose Hospital. “This program sets forth rigorous standards to support the legislative goals of patient safety and quality care for those patients who require interventional cardiac care.”
St. Rose Hospital is one of only six hospitals in California to be selected for this program, paving way for the Hospital to become a research site to analyze the outcomes of non-emergent PCI. To participate in the pilot program, an eligible hospital has to demonstrate that it complies with strict criteria and has the resources and commitment of qualified physicians and staff to meet the ongoing requirements and specific protocols throughout the duration of the program.
