Meet Vermont Author Deborah Lee Luskin at the Windham County History Fair

Vermont author Deborah Lee Luskin will be at the Author’s Tent at the Windham County History Fair this Saturday, August 14, from 10-4, in front of the courthouse on the Newfane Common. She will be available to sign copies and talk about her novel, Into The Wilderness, set in Vermont in 1964.

Newfane, VT, August 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Luskin will discuss her novel, Into The Wilderness, and answer the question, “Why 1964?” She will talk about Vermont’s transition from its century as a conservative, Republican stronghold to its current status as a leader of liberal, Democratic politics. In addition, Luskin will talk about the effect of the Interstate on the landscape and culture of Vermont. She will be joined by other local authors whose work is also grounded in Windham County. In all, ten authors will be on hand to talk informally about the role of Vermont history and landscape in their work. The Author’s Tent is sponsored by Old and New England Books, of Newfane. Books will be available for sale and signing.

In addition to the Author’s Tent., historical societies and organizations will be represented at The Windham County History Fair, including the Vermont Historical Society, the Estey Organ Museum, the Brookline Round School House, Brookline Church Preservation Association, the Vermont Old Cemetery Association and local historical societies from Brattleboro, Dover, Dummerston, Grafton, Guilford, Jamaica, Townshend and Whitingham.

Fairgoers can also take a walking tour of the Newfane Village Historic District, highlighting the buildings removed early in the 19th Century from the original settlement on Newfane Hill to their current location in the Shire Village. Demonstrations in wool spinning, birch bark canoe making, weaving and colonial wood-working will take place throughout the day. In addition, The Museum of the Historical Society of Windham County will be open all day with regularly scheduled tours of its collection of 18th- 19th- and 20th-century artifacts from Windham County. Refreshments, raffles and live music will round out the event.
