Family Fun for Everyone at Summer BBQ Event
Dover, DE, August 11, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Fifth Annual Diamond State BBQ Championship at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will be held on Saturday, August 21, beginning at 10 a.m. with more exhibits, attractions and entertainment than ever before. Popular returning events include Delaware’s Strongest Man Contest, the Big Boys Toys Show sponsored by Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce, and the Delmarva Chapter Studebaker’s Club Muscle Car Show. The “Kids’ Zone” features more children’s activities, remote control car races, a stock car simulator, carnival games and more.
A new highlight this year will be Hell on Wheels, the nation’s leading BMX action sports stunt show. Hell on Wheels features a national network of riders on BMX bikes, Freestyle Motocross, skateboards, inline skates, and street bikes. The stunt team will perform several exciting exhibitions throughout the day and sign autographs. The stunt show has entertained millions and regularly performs at pro sporting and racing events, theme parks, state fairs, and other signature events.
“We have added more attractions and entertainment this year,” said Fred Bohn, director of Banquets and the coordinator of the event. “Also, with the move from October to August, the height of the barbeque season, we expect our highest attendance ever.”
Also new, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino will give away a Backyard BBQ for 25 people to include Herschel Walker Ribs with Jack Daniels BBQ sauce, BBQ chicken with Cherry Pepsi glaze, and smoked beef brisket all personally prepared, grilled and served by Dover Downs Hotel & Casino chefs, as well as salads, Frito-Lay Chips and watermelon. A sign up form will be located at the United Way Booth. Chefs will also host sizzling barbeque demonstration classes at the BBQ Championship event using personal grilling techniques and sharing BBQ secrets. Vendor Village will have a variety of merchandise, crafts and accessories, plus beer and all kinds of food including chicken, ribs, fries, ice cream, funnel cakes, popcorn and much more.
PepsiCo will provide recycling containers, and all aluminum cans of soda sold at the event will be collected and donated to Recycling for Eden, a charity designed to help fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a neuromuscular degenerative disease that affects children. Proceeds raised by Recycling for Eden will benefit two-year-old Eden Cheslock of Dover, who was diagnosed with SMA Type 2 in January. Eagle 97.7 FM will begin the day at 10 a.m. with a live radio broadcast by Petch and Paula, hosts of the station’s Eagle in the Morning weekday show. Petch and Paula will have goodies to give away and feature onsite interviews.
Entertainment includes a High School Drum-off between Dover H.S. “Rolling Thunder” Drumline (event performers since 2006) and new arrival, the Cape Henlopen H.S. Drumline. Both will lead the BBQ teams to an awards ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Additional entertainment will be provided by Blues Brotherhood and Separate Ways tribute bands, featuring music from the Blues Brothers and Journey. Each will perform at multiple times during the event.
