Yount Sets His Sights on Upper Gauley Time Record

Riverboarder seeks to break record for riverboard class in one of the most grueling river races.

Asheville, NC, August 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- A veteran of riverboarding races for the past three years and quite a few long distance river runs as well, Face Level Industries C.O.R.E. team athlete and Appalachian Riverboarding owner, Kevin Yount is setting his sites on a new goal and challenge late this riverboarding season: setting the record time for the riverboard class in the Gauley Animal Race on the Upper section of the Gauley River. “There won't be a national riverboarding championship in the United States this year, so my mind and body need another challenge so that I stay focused,” Kevin exclaimed.

Gary Pera holds the record time at 1:17:53 which he set during the race in 2006. “Gary set the bar very high with his time and it is going to be a challenge to better it. Also, there were no riverboarders in the race last year, so it will also be an honor to represent riverboarding in the race once again. It would be really awesome if a few others came out to do it too,” Kevin says.

Kevin had hoped to do a short adventure triathlon (the Captain Thurmond's Challenge in West Virginia) in early August as training, but low water levels forced him to not be able to riverboard it. “I was really looking forward to pushing my legs to the limit with mountain biking, riverboarding, and trail running, but hopefully I'll get to take another try at it when there is enough water, both for training and the challenge it holds in itself,” Yount said. With about 5 weeks left, Yount is pulling out all the stops to be in his best racing shape yet and try to take home the title for the riverboard class this year and the record.
