Jerald David August
Jerald David August is a partner in the West Palm Beach office of Fox Rothschild LLP, who also practices out of the Philadelphia office. He is Co-Chair of the Firm’s Tax & Estates Department and Chair of the Tax Opinions Committee. Jerry is a national authority on federal taxation and is a frequent lecturer throughout the U.S. on federal tax matters, including corporate and partnership taxation, international taxation, wealth transfer taxation and tax controversy and tax litigation. He is past Vice-Chair (Publications) of the American Bar Association, Section of Taxation and past Editor-in-Chief of The Tax Lawyer, Vols. 58 & 59, which is the leading law review for tax practitioners in the U.S. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Business Entities, a leading national publication.
Jerry has served as Chair of the S Corporation and CLE Committees of the ABA Tax Section and has served on the Task Force on Federal Wealth Transfer Taxes, Subcommittee on Carryover Basis and as Chair of the ABA Tax Section’s Task Force on Pass-Through Entity Integration. Jerry is a long-standing member of the Advisory Board of the New York University Institute on Federal Taxation and has served as Chair of the Institute on Federal Wealth Taxation (2006 - 2010) and Chair of the NYU Annual Institute on Federal Taxation Closely-Held Businesses Session (2001 - 2010). He has chaired and participated in various national programs including the Graduate Tax Program of the NYU School of Law, ALI-ABA, ABA Tax Section, and various state bar programs and institutes, including Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He is a member of the ABA Committee on Government Submissions, American College of Tax Counsel, the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, American Tax Policy Institute, American Law Institute, and member of the Consultative Groups on Restatement (Third) of Donative Transfers and Restatement (Third) of the Law of Trusts.
Guy B. Maxfield
Guy B. Maxfield is Senior Counsel to the firm of Fox Rothschild LLP. Guy has a national reputation in the area of income taxation, and estate and gift taxation. He has had substantial experience planning estates for individuals with sizable assets and also advises owners of private corporations on tax matters. He is a member of the Board of Editors and Advisors for Tax Law Review and The Review of Taxation of Individuals.
A law professor at New York University School of Law, for 42 years, Guy has been appointed Professor of Law, Emeritus, by the University. He was twice selected to teach a course dealing with estate and gift taxation before the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service. His academic subject areas included income taxation, tax procedure, as well as estate and gift tax law.
A prolific writer, Guy has written ten books examining various tax law subjects such as federal estates, gift taxes, tax planning, and wills and trusts. He has co-authored numerous taxation articles appearing in International Tax Journal, Journal of Taxation, Tax Law Review, Tax Lawyer, and the New York Bar Association Journal.
Guy is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Section of Taxation. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association and Tax Section, having served as Vice-Chair of the Estate and Gift Tax Committee. Guy also maintains membership with the American College of Tax Counsel and the American Law Institute. He is admitted to appear before Federal District Court, the Southern District of New York and United States Tax Court.
