Columbia, SC, August 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Samurai Karate Studio, located in Columbia, South Carolina, Richland Northeast, recently participated in a Habitat For Humanity house build.
Sensei Chris Feldt, owner and chief instructor for Samurai Karate commented, "We were so excited to be able to volunteer and work on this house! We got to meet the owner and spent the morning caulking and painting much of the trim work, as the house is nearly complete."
Habitat For Humanity International, was founded in 1976, by Millard and Linda Fuller. It is a a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. To accomplish these goals, Habitat For Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
To date, Habitat For Humanity has built over 350,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.75 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
The owner of this new house, located in Blythewood, lost her eyesight 8 years ago during an accident, however, she was an active volunteer at Habitat For Humanity.
"All house owners have to volunteer a minimum of 350 hours in order to qualify for consideration of a house build," stated Feldt, "and this women, despite being blind, had logged more than 700 hours! She really was amazing and an inspiration to all of us that got the chance to meet with her."
While Habitat For Humanity is nearly finished with their work on the house, there is still much left to do. The house still needs to be painted inside and out and their is lots of landscaping to do.
"We plan on volunteering several more times to help this women out," commented Feldt. "She is a neighbor, and neighbors help each other out!"
