SilverRock Resort Hosted Second Round of Medal Play Fall Finish Playoffs
La Quinta, CA, August 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- It was moving day Sunday for players putting themselves into contention for player of the year honors to be decided at the Tour Championship in 3 weeks on the Celebrity course at the beautiful Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, CA. “Senior D Flight is the flight to watch heading into the Tour Championship” stated tour director Blane Freytag. “Any of the top 4 can take the title with a win” added Freytag.
Flight leader Julian Hernandez heated up on the back nine with 3 birdies, including a birdie on the final hole to win by 4 and increase his points lead heading into the Tour Championship. Jay Rein took the scorecard playoff for second over Thomas Tennison. Jay Rein, Thomas Tennison and Shaun Clark all have a mathematical chance at player of the year depending on how this group finishes at the final event.
Brian Curci used his local knowledge of SilverRock to notch out another win by 2 shots over Charlie Waddell. Scott Butterfield took third. This flight will be decided by who shows up at the Tour Championship.
Jack Martin survived a hot and humid day take the title in the Senior D Flight by shooting a net 71 to triumph over Rick Lehman by a stroke. Tour newcomer Rick Newby took third. Any of the top 4 can win the title with a win at Indian Wells.
Flight leader Virgil Mink showed up with his A game to take the title with a net 71 to make a statement heading into the final event. Daniel Grow took second and Paul Jurkofsky was third. Daniel Grow, David Onken, Paul Jurkofsky and Phil Dickens still have a mathematical shot at player of the year at Indian Wells.
Chuck Thomas locked up player of the year for F Flight with his win on Sunday. F Flight will have a great battle at the Tour Championship with its largest field in a number of events.
