Detroit Rocks to Raise Funds to Help Abused and Abandoned Animals
Detroit, MI, August 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Local Non-profit Animal Rescue Group, HomeFur-ever, Hosting Detroit City Woof-stock at The Magic Stick on August 27th to Raise Funds for Medical Care, Shelter and Food for Rescued Animals
Local non-profit animal rescue group, Home Fur-ever, is seeking the Detroit community’s assistance in raising funds to care for its rescued animals by hosting the first annual Detroit City Woof-stock on Friday, August 27th at The Magic Stick on Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Doors open at 8:00 p.m., tickets will be sold at the door for $10. The event is open to attendees of all ages; those over 21 will receive a special tag that will allow them to order alcoholic beverages. The group urges the attendance of animal lovers of all ages.
The music-oriented event, sponsored by PeeKeeper, Gardner-White Furniture, Mike Carey Music and The Magic Stick, is the group’s main fundraiser for the year. The program includes live music from local bands, as well as a silent auction and raffle. According to the event’s volunteer organizer, Jessica Wieczorek, “I want this to be a fun event that attracts animal lovers, the band’s followers, and people that hear about the event and want to come because it sounds like a good time. The benefit will support a great cause and the group’s continuous effort to rescue dogs, regardless of their breed, age or health from harmful or cruel environments.”
Proceeds from the event will be used to support Home Fur-ever’s on-going animal rescue and care efforts which include: emergency medical treatment, spay/neuter, on-going veterinary care, food, shelter, and all other associated expenses involved with the rescue and adoption of abused and abandoned animals throughout the Detroit Metro Area. The group is currently caring for approximately 100 animals, and typically cares for an average of 350 abused or abandoned animals every year, most of whom require extensive medical treatment before they can be adopted into new, loving families. One of the group’s volunteer foster’s, Linda Daichendt states, “The abuse and neglect these animals suffer is horrendous, it just breaks your heart. Particularly during the last few years of economic stress in our area, the number of animals abandoned by families who have lost their homes or simply can’t afford to feed the animal has put a tremendous stress on the resources of HomeFur-ever as one of the largest animal rescue groups in the area. This group takes in all types of dogs, including the ones that other groups won’t go near – the worst cases, and they get the medical treatment, socialization, food, shelter and love they need until the right adoptive home is found for them. In some cases this group is caring for an animal for years until an acceptable adoptive home can be found for them; all of that costs a great deal of money and requires an extensive network of volunteers and fosters. The funds an event like this can raise are sorely needed, as are many more foster homes.”
Silent auction items for the event include: $500 Gardner-White gift certificates, vacation packages, art from Detroit-area artists, a wheelbarrow of booze, and much more. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Detroit-area bands including: Odayin, Switchblade Justice, Medicine Letter, The Starlights, Woodman, The John Davies Problem, and Front of Resistance.
