Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to Sign Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve
Mr. Scot L. Beckenbaugh, Acting Director of the FMCS will join a cadre of Fortune 500 comapnies, state and federal agencies, and thousands of America's employers who have pledged support for our troops.
Washington, DC, August 22, 2005 --(PR.com)-- Mr. Bob Hollingsworth, Executive Director of the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, announced that Mr. Scot L. Beckenbaugh, Acting Director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), will sign a Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve at 3:00pm on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at the agency’s headquarters, 2100 K Street N.W., in Washington, DC.
“Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units. I am asking all of America’s employers to review and amended their current human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act Law (USERRA), said Hollingsworth. “This is a significant event not only for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS), but for all Federal Civil Service Employees. The Federal Government is one of the largest employers of National Guardsmen and Reservists in the country.”
“By signing the Statement of Support, the management of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service stands proudly with their Guard and Reserve employees, who like the Minute Men before them, continue to answer their nation’s call to defend our way of life. Their personal sacrifices are essential to the strength of our nation”, added Hollingsworth.
Acting FMCS Director Scot L. Beckenbaugh said, “Today, we are stating our strong support for the National Guard and Reserve very clearly and very emphatically. We want the men and women of the Guard and Reserve at the FMCS and in all our nation’s workplaces to understand how much we appreciate their commitment and dedication. These are outstanding individuals who are professionals on the job and who are pillars of their communities. We want to express our considerable gratitude for their patriotism, for their professionalism, and above all, for their unhesitating answer to the call to duty.”
According Hollingsworth, “The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service is joining a growing cadre of Fortune 500 companies, state and federal agencies and thousands of American employers who have pledged support for our troops. A Statement of Support serves two very vital functions: First, it demonstrates the strong level of support for our Guard and Reserve, which is important during this critical time. Secondly, it sends a clear message to the service members that while they’re serving their country, they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs.”
The U.S. Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, created in 1947, is an independent U.S. government agency whose mission is to preserve and promote labor-management peace and cooperation. Headquartered in Washington, DC with 10 district offices and more than 70 field offices, the agency provides mediation and conflict resolution services to industry, government agencies and communities.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain active support from all public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve.
