New Memoir from Henry Chapin & Sons Gives Insight Into Traumatic Brain Injury

The Unforgettable New Book That Proves Second Chances Are Within Our Mind's Grasp.

Cutchogue, NY, August 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Henry Chapin & Sons has released a new memoir from Lee Carlson about surviving Traumatic Brain Injury. The book tells the story of a middle-aged writer who ssgets run over by a car, sustains a Traumatic Brain Injury and loses everything: his house, his marriage, his children, his career-even his ability to write. But thanks to modern medicine, ancient wisdom and a good dose of luck, he recovers almost completely, and at his doctors’ urging tells a story almost no one else can tell: what it feels like to lose one’s mind and then find it again.

At its core, “Passage to Nirvana” is a story of triumph over adversity. But the book is much more than the usual inspirational memoir. Written in a unique style influenced by the author’s brain injury, utilizing short essays and short poems, “Passage to Nirvana” touches on such far-ranging subjects as Zen Buddhism, poetry, family, love, happiness, sailing, kids, dogs, divorce, and especially Traumatic Brain Injury. “Passage to Nirvana” is about the poetry of living.

Traumatic Brain Injury, or TBI, is an important and topical subject, due to the large number of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with Traumatic Brain Injuries, and the large number of professional athletes also experiencing Traumatic Brain Injuries.

There is also a fascinating story behind the story. Spurned by the mainstream publishing community, the author formed his own publishing company, Henry Chapin & Sons LLC, and published the book himself. The results have been overwhelming. Based solely on the strength of ten sample chapters posted on the book’s web site, www.passagetonirvana.com, the book’s FaceBook fan page already has fans from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina, the U.K., Ireland, France, Italy, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Russia, India, Nepal, Indonesia, Singapore, South Africa and Australia.

The book is available from Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and other online retailers in hardcover ($29.95) and trade paperback ($17.95). Bookstores can also order wholesale through Ingram, and libraries can order through Baker and Taylor, the country’s largest library distributor. A PDF e-book version is available on www.passagetonirvana.com, and e-book versions for the Kindle, iPad, iPhone, Nook and other e-readers will be available soon. A large print version is also in the works to make reading the book easier for brain injury survivors.
