The Gallery Group at The Art Institute of Jacksonville Presents Dish It Out
Local Artists to Display Work at The Art Institute of Jacksonville
Jacksonville, FL, August 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Gallery Group at The Art Institute of Jacksonville, a branch of Miami International University of Art & Design, presents Dish It Out, an exhibit of one-of-a-kind melamine plates. The exhibit will be display in The Gallery at The Art Institute of Jacksonville through September 17, 2010.
Inspired by the popularity of community-driven exhibits like I’m Board (skate deck exhibit) and Designers in Toyland (toy exhibit) the Gallery Group set forth to organize a show that utilized a unified medium on which participants could showcase their creativity. The result of which is an exhibit that brings together students, artists, designers, enthusiasts and kind folk, young and old, through a medium traditionally reserved for elementary education.
The Gallery Group is a focus group of Graphic Design and Web Design & Interactive Media students responsible for curating, installing and advertising exhibitions throughout the school year. Students develop a concept, research artists and curate each exhibition with the intention of further defining the relationship between “fine art” and design.
The Dish It Out exhibit presented participants with the challenge of limiting their medium to Crayola Markers used on Make-A-Plate template paper. The results of which, are a limited color palette, simplified imagery and boastfully simplistic line quality. Once the designs were created, the original drawings were fused into melamine to create dishwasher-safe dinner plates
The work will be displayed in The Art Institute of Jacksonville Gallery now through September 17, 2010. The Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 8 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM until 4 PM.
