Professional Cyclists Timmy Duggan and Jake Wells to Compete in 2nd Annual Steamboat Springs Stage Race Presented by Moots

More than 230 cyclists registered for road stage race

Steamboat Springs, CO, August 29, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The 2nd Annual Steamboat Springs Stage Race presented by Moots rolls into town Labor Day weekend, September 3-6, 2010, bringing with it some of the top names in cycling. More than 350 professional and amateur racers are expected to take part in the four-day road stage race.

Garmin-Transitions Pro Team member Timmy Duggan and Jake Wells of Mafia Racing are scheduled to compete. Duggan’s strength’s include stage racing, time trialing, and climbing. 2010 marks the first appearance for Timmy Duggan in Steamboat. Jake Wells is competitive and well known on the mountain and cyclocross race circuits. Last year in the inaugural Steamboat Springs Stage Race, Wells finished 15th in the General Classification. Members of Primal Racing and other top caliber athletes are also registered.

“We’re very pleased with the support received from Steamboat Springs and the road racing community, it ensures a great event for athletes, volunteers, spectators, and sponsors,” said race promoter Corey Piscopo. “The goal was to grow the event while maintaining a fun, safe, and competitive field. We’ve registered more riders to date than last year at this time, many from out of state. The Men’s Pro field is looking very strong, especially with Jake Wells of Mafia Racing returning and Timmy Duggan of Garmin-Transitions racing this year. Other professional riders have expressed an interest in racing. We’re waiting for commitments.”

The Steamboat Springs Stage Race presented by Moots, is sanctioned by the American Cycling Association (ACA) and is one of twelve road stage races profiled in VeloNews’ Road & Race Guide.

The four-day stage begins Friday afternoon, September 3rd, with a new time trial course, this year allowing the use of time trial equipment if desired. The Aspire Individual Time Trial is very spectator friendly with the finish located in the mountain area of town, just off Mt. Werner Circle. Total course length is 10.5 kilometers with 250 total feet of climbing.

Professional and amateur categories will complete for a $7500 cash purse, $750 criterium priems, plus additional daily merchandise prizes. All registered athletes who start the individual time trial are automatically entered to win a custom Moots road frame.

Racing action continues Saturday at Marabou Ranch with the Marabou Ranch Circuit Race. The 2010 circuit course will be run in the opposite direction of the 2009 circuit course. Sunday’s Moots Road Race features the scenic and rolling terrain of Routt County roads. Monday’s Ski & Bike Kare Downtown Criterium brings the action to old town Steamboat. Sunday’s and Monday’s courses remain unchanged from last year.

Saturday evening’s post-race excitement includes a special showing of the new movie, Chasing Legends, a Tour de France documentary as seen through the eyes of Team HTC Columbia. The film will be shown Saturday at 7:00 pm at the Steamboat Springs High School Auditorium. Tickets are $10.00 when purchased in advance at race registration or online at moots.com, $12.00 at the door. All proceeds to benefit the local Safe Routes to Schools program and Routt County Riders.

Following Sunday’s Moots Road Race stage, competitors and their families are invited to gather at the Moots factory for an open house, BBQ dinner, road race stage awards, and the raffle drawing for the custom Moots road frame and other prizes.
