AeroTech Turbines Completes Products Trials of New Wind Turbine

Taipei, Taiwan, September 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- AeroTech Turbines Inc. declared its product trials for the AeroCity VAWT 2 wind turbine a complete success after more than six months of extensive development tests. Adrian Warner, the company’s Chief Technical Officer, said full scale manufacturing could begin as early as November 2010.

“Our OEM partners will be ready to meet an anticipated surge in demand for VAWT wind turbines in 2011 and beyond,” disclosed Warner. “We believe this is the world’s first wind turbine than can be installed in an urban environment without disrupting pre-existing conditions and that will produce sufficient amounts of electricity to justify the costs and labor involved.”

Warner went on to explain the AeroCity VAWT 2 has a 9kw generator which can generate approximately 10,000 kilowatt hours per year based on average wind speeds of just 12 mph (20kmh) – enough to power a typical American household.

“To put things in perspective, the amount of wind needed for the AeroCity VAWT 2 to generate electricity efficiently is classified as a ‘Gentle Breeze’ on the Beaufort Scale for measuring wind speed,” Warner explained. “In other words, the turbine will generate electricity almost anywhere, most of the time. As wind is never constant, there is no way to ensure constant generation of electricity through wind turbines, but we are close enough with this model. When you take into account the fact that the turbine will sometimes generate more electricity than a single household needs at the time, it is possible to make a home energy neutral by connecting it to a municipal power grid and giving its surpluses to that grid for other consumers to use.”

A key feature that makes the AeroCity VAWT 2 suitable for urban installation is it occupies much less space than the more common horizontal axis wind turbines which resemble windmills. AeroTech’s latest turbine is approximately 45 feet (14m) high and ten feet (3.1m) wide. In other words, the turbines occupies roughly the same amount of space on the ground as a typical city lamppost, but is slightly higher.

A final decision on the price of the turbine will be made in October. Warner suggested a benchmark figure of $28,000 FOB Shanghai.
