Third Annual Walk to Honor Teacher and Mother
Morast Walk in Bridgewater Raises Money for Ovarian Cancer and Scholarship
Bridgewater, MA, September 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Ovations for the Cure of Ovarian Cancer, a national organization dedicated to research, patient support programs and raising awareness of ovarian cancer has rejoined forces for a third year with Karla Morast Psaros and Kerry Morast to host a three-mile fundraising walk in honor of their mother, Frances Morast. Frances lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2007 though her memory lives on through this annual event.
Frances Morast lived in Bridgewater most of her life and taught at Williams Junior High (now Williams Intermediate School) for over 30 years.
September is nationally recognized as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. This event, which starts and finishes at Bridgewater’s Williams Middle School, is being held on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.; the walk commences at 10:00 a.m.
In the last two years, the “Frances F. Morast Walk to Beat Ovarian Cancer” has raised over $55,000 with over 300 walkers. The “Frances F. Morast Walk to Beat Ovarian Cancer” event will once again raise valuable money for ovarian cancer and the Frances F. Morast Memorial Scholarship.
“My mother was a devoted mother, friend, teacher and citizen of the town of Bridgewater,” says Karla Morast Psaros, “This walk is a tribute to her and all that she did during her short but full life.”
“We are honored to be working with the Morast family for a third year and being a part of carrying on their mother’s spirit,” said Lisa Collamore Tocci of Ovations.
Copy Inks of Stoughton has joined with Ovations for the Cure and the Morast family, to sponsor this event.
Entry: The event is open to the public. The cost is $30 per adult, $15 for kids in advance or $35 at the event. Interested walkers can sign up at www.ovationsforthecure.org and click on “Upcoming Events”. Once registered walkers can create their own customized webpage to invite friends and family to join them in the walk or sponsor their efforts.
About Ovations for the Cure
Ovations for the Cure, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the relentless pursuit of a cure for ovarian cancer in three critical ways. First, by providing critical funding of new and ongoing ovarian cancer research and treatment initiatives. Second, by actively increasing the awareness of the subtle signs and symptoms of this silent disease. Third, by giving hope, education and comfort to those currently battling ovarian cancer through its patient programs. The organization was founded in 2006 by nine-year ovarian cancer survivor Patricia Franchi Flaherty, who also lost her mother to the disease. Patty decided to dedicate her life to raising awareness of the risk factors and subtle warning signs of this often overlooked women’s cancer so no other women would have to endure what she did.
