New Stem Cell Skin Therapy Gives Skin Fresh Appearance
Cornelius, NC, December 30, 2006 --(PR.com)-- A new skin rejuvenation therapy—using stem cells from the amniotic fluid of pregnant cows—is now used to hydrate and firm facial skin in humans.
Stem Cell Skin Therapy uses cells taken from pregnant cows in the eighth month of pregnancy. Neither the cow nor the calf is harmed, and the cow replaces the fluid in a few hours. Laboratory workers purify, separate and test the stem cells, then package the sterilized serum in bottles.
At a medical spa, under the direction of a physician, licensed clinicians treat facial skin with the stem cell mixture under sterile conditions. Workers use sterile gloves, masks and pipettes to transfer the serum to the face. The liquid containing the stem cells is spread over the face, and then a spray is applied to keep the liquid in place until it can be absorbed into the upper layers of skin.
Stem Cell Skin Therapy can be used in two ways: to firm or to hydrate. If a patient has deep creases, Siddhi Patel, Clinical Administrator for Yuvan MedSpa, recommends hydrating first so that the cells will better hold the stem cell solution for later tightening and firming. The effects of the treatment peak about six days following the application.
For clients with very dry or lined skin, Patel recommends applications once a week for six weeks, with follow up done on a monthly or bi-monthly basis after that. Consistent use of a home maintenance regimen, using a non-irritating cleanser, a good moisturizer and possibly a skin lubricator in addition to a moisturizer for very dry skin, is important for success, says Patel.
The FDA approved Stem Cell Skin Therapy in the U.S. in 2000, and since then, over 8,000 facial treatments have been completed in this country without serious negative reactions. Stem Cell Skin Therapy is a new treatment to the Charlotte market, and Yuvan MedSpa is one of the first spas in the area to offer Stem Cell Skin Therapy.
Patel notes that the cows from which the stem cells are harvested are not your average cows. The cows used to create the stem cells are fed organic food and are quarantined from other animals to avoid contamination.
“Clients are pleased because they can see results after the first treatment,” says Patel. “I had the treatment done myself, to experience it. For me, they did one side of my face but not the other, and both the clinician and I could really see the difference between the side that was treated and the side that was not. It’s a very safe, very effective way to treat dry skin and fine wrinkles in a non-invasive way.”
