Youth Explore Sports Expo to Spotlight Healthy (and Fun) Year Round Activities
The expo provides parents, and their kids, with an opportunity to learn more about the various programs, techniques, equipment, safety concerns and social/teamwork skills garnered through sport participation.
Plano, TX, December 30, 2006 --(PR.com)-- An expected capacity crowd of organizations that impact the lives of active youth in Collin County will be gathered at the Shops at Willow Bend in Plano on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007 for the inaugural YES! (Youth Explore Sports) Expo. The expo provides parents, and their kids, with an opportunity to learn more about the various programs, techniques, equipment, safety concerns and social/teamwork skills garnered through sport participation.
Holly Bassen serves on the Advisory Board for YES! She is a mother of four, member of the Frisco Parent Teacher Association and wife of a retired professional athlete. Bassen provided some insight into the event; “We have made a proactive attempt to include any and all organizations that provide instruction and competition in sport from the likes of boxing to lacrosse, cricket to hockey and figure skating to football; this includes parks and recreation departments, school districts, colleges, and all of our local pro sports franchises. Talk about a busy parent’s dream… YES! has made it come true. I look forward to meeting each of the folks who run these organizations and who will undoubtedly spend time with my children.”
In order to insure that no sport, friend or interested party is overlooked, there are several ways to be involved; exhibit, demonstrate, advertise, sponsor or volunteer.
John G Sutter, President of the North Texas State Soccer Association, is organizing a group of six Collin County based soccer organizations that will exhibit and demonstrate at YES! “We are excited about bringing our North Texas Chevy Soccer Tour mobile unit to the expo, introducing the kids to some of the FC Dallas professional players and providing parents with ideas for drills and activities they can help their kids with at home. This is a unique, and long overdue, opportunity for families of all ages,” expressed Sutter.
About YES!: YES! is designed to provide the young people of Collin County an introduction to the people, sports and physical activities that are offered by organizations in our community. Public, private, competitive, recreational and individual sport organizations are invited to participate in the Expo.
The mission of Collin County YES! is to create awareness of and increase participation in activities that foster healthier lives for the young people of our community.
