Free Needlepoint Stitching Event Welcomes Beginners and Experts, American Needlepoint Guild Welcomes Public to Events at Greater Columbus Convention Center

Madison, WI, September 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- They’re coming, needles in hand, and they want you to join them. From October 1 through October 8, hundreds of members of the American Needlepoint Guild (ANG) from the US, Canada and other countries will be in Columbus to learn from experts and to share the fruits of their labor with the public. Come to the public events and learn more about why needlepoint is so popular.

Learn to Needlepoint for Free
On October 6, ANG experts will host a free public stitching event to share their love of the art with Columbus. The free “Stitch ‘N Go” class will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the Hyatt Regency Columbus on the third floor in the Regency Ballroom South Foyer. Attendees will receive a complimentary starter kit containing canvas, threads, needle and instructions to learn basic needlepoint stitches. The end-result can be used as an ornament or pin. ANG members will be available to assist attendees with the project.

Free Exhibit
ANG’s judged needlework Exhibit, free and opened to the public, will be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in the Battelle Hall South, with various types of needlework by members on display. Hours for the exhibit will be:
- October 3 from noon until 5 p.m.
- October 4-7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- October 8 from 10 a.m. to noon

ANG Shop and Bookstore
The public is welcome to visit a shop and bookstore also at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in the Battelle Hall South. The ANG Shop vendor, M’s Canvashouse, will carry an array of canvases, thread, fibers, and other merchandise of interest to enthusiasts. The bookstore, Ruth Kern Books, will offer a full line of new and pre-owned books on a range of techniques and topics associated with needlework, as well as books of a general interest to readers of all ages. Hours for the ANG Shop and Bookstore are:
- October 1 from noon to 6 p.m.
- October 2 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- October 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- October 4-6 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- October 7 from 8 a.m. until noon

About Needlepoint
According to The National NeedleArts Association report in 2007, there are more than 71,000 needlepointers in the US who together spend $98 million each year on the craft. The needle arts – which includes crocheting, knitting and cross-stitch - have been growing in popularity, says TNNA.
