The Merchant Prince to Begin Offering New Discounted Android Cell Phone
Indianapolis, IN, September 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Merchant Prince, an online retailer, announced today that it would begin offering a low-cost cell phone that runs on the popular Google "Android" platform.
The Excalibur, The Merchant Prince's answer to Android phones from Samsung, Motorola, and HTC, includes most of the same features as the name brand phones, but retails for a much lower price. The Excalibur will be rolled out on the company's website, www.themerchantprince.net, in September (view the phone now at: http://www.themerchantprince.net/ex3gan32into.html).
Troy Tyson, president of The Merchant Prince's parent company, TMG Media Enterprises Inc., says that the new offering serves an important slice of the booming cell phone market. "The market demand for Android-based cell phones is strong and growing rapidly," says Tyson. "However, at this point many of the newer phones are still outside of the budget range of many consumers. The phones simply aren't affordable to a lot of consumers who want them."
That's where phones like the Excalibur come in, says Tyson: "The Excalibur has all of the same features as the more expensive models, it looks great, has great functionality. The only difference is that it costs about $200 or $300 less than the name brand phones. We see this as a huge opportunity to provide a great, in-demand product to that section of the market that wants the features, wants the technology, but wants to pay a reduced price." The phones, Tyson added, also come with a full warranty and money back guarantee.
The Excalibur comes with 3G functionality, is completely unlocked (meaning it can be used on any network or with any provider), and has features such as Wifi, drag-able menu, Bluetooth, touchscreen, 2MP camera, GPS navigation, and more. The phone runs on the Android 2.1 platform, and as a special bonus during the phone's rollout, The Merchant Prince is including a free 2GB TF card with every phone purchase.
The Merchant Prince has many established manufacturing partnerships with Chinese firms, which allows it to obtain high-technology products at reduced prices. The Merchant Prince will sell the Excalibur for $359. Comparable phones in terms of features and technology typically sell for $550 or more.
While Tyson is excited about the launch of the Excalibur, he says this is only the first in a line of upcoming Android phones that The Merchant Prince will be marketing. "We're going to be rolling out a whole line of the phones over the next year," he says. "We are going to work very hard to meet the needs of that part of the market that wants a great Android phone, but doesn't want to get a second mortgage in order to buy one."
