Media Personality, Dr. Leigh-Davis, Hosts a Special "Real Deal" on Disturbing and Ubiquitous Disorders
Media personality, Dr. Leigh-Davis, responds to Barbara Walters' shocking report on gender identity disorder, with a special show on “Disturbing and Ubiquitous Disorders.”
Los Angeles, CA, September 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Many people are still in shock from Barbara Walters' 20/20 special on gender identity disorder, and Dr. Leigh-Davis is one of those shocked people. For those of you who do not remember, Barbara Walters returned to the television show 20/20 to guest host a special one-hour episode on “gender identity disorder.” Simply, gender identity disorder is when a male identifies himself as a female and vice versa. Barbara Walters' special was particularly shocking, because it focused on children, as young as three years old, with this disorder.
In the United States, the American Psychiatric Association permits a diagnosis of gender identity disorder if four diagnostic criteria are met. The criteria are:
1. Long-standing and strong identification with another gender.
2. Long-standing disquiet about the sex assigned or a sense of incongruity in the gender-assigned role of that sex.
3. The diagnosis is not made if the individual also has physical intersex characteristics.
4. Significant clinical discomfort or impairment at work, social situations, or other important life areas.
“The Real Deal” episode entitled “Disturbing and Ubiquitous Disorders,” is Dr. Leigh-Davis’ response to Barbara Walters' special. “This episode is not only a discussion of gender identity disorder. Rather, this episode expounds on the vast and ever-increasing disorders, and whether they are all legitimate, or necessary. I am shocked when I constantly meet children, who all have a diagnosis of at least three (3) official disorders,” Dr. Leigh-Davis explained last week. Dr. Leigh-Davis continued, “Of course, one must not leave out the celebrity element, because celebrities are what mainstream news is inundated with. Accordingly, ‘The Real Deal’ episode on ‘Disturbing and Ubiquitous Disorders’ discusses Lindsay Lohan’s and Paris Hilton’s alleged diagnoses of ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.)”
“The Real Deal,” hosted by Dr. Leigh-Davis, is a weekly radio show on Blog Talk Radio, which focuses on current events and anything interesting. “The Real Deal” is categorized as an entertainment radio show, which will always bring some laughter. “‘The Real Deal’ is open lines all the time, all you must do is be Fascinating,” is Dr. Leigh-Davis’ popular mantra.
Dr. Leigh-Davis is a female law professor, retired attorney, and media personality best known for regularly appearing on numerous television news programs as a legal analyst and legal commentator.
