Popular Legal Commentator & Legal Analyst, Dr. Leigh-Davis, Adopts the Position of Refusing to Comment on Race and Gender Issues
Media personality, Dr. Leigh-Davis, takes a controversial position when it comes to race and gender issues.
Los Angeles, CA, September 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Leigh-Davis is a female law professor, retired attorney, and media personality best known for regularly appearing on numerous television news programs as a legal analyst and legal commentator. Recently, Dr. Leigh-Davis publicized the fact, she no longer wishes to commentate on race or gender issues. Dr. Leigh-Davis explained her position by stating, “Not withstanding, I am biased when it comes to discussing race and gender issues, because I am half-black and a female; the reason race and gender issues permeate today’s society, is due to the constant focus put on these issues.” Dr. Leigh-Davis went on to elaborate, “For decades, I have refused to be a member of any race or gender based organization, such as ‘Women in Film’ or ‘The Black Lawyers’ Association.’ This is a personal choice. I believe for some, these organizations are great. However, I personally feel, these organizations lead to the so-called ‘unrepresented’ unproductively commiserating about their struggle.”
When asked about comparisons to Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas, who is adamantly and fiercely opposed to affirmative action, Dr. Leigh-Davis responded, “That is a ridiculous comparison. I am making a personal choice. I am not trying to change the law. Furthermore, there are enough news people pursuing the issues of race and gender. My background is in finance and law, and there are many other issues, which need my focus.”
Some media executives have commentated, this could hurt Dr. Leigh-Davis’ burgeoning media career. In addition to being a popular legal analyst and legal commentator, Dr. Leigh-Davis: hosts a weekly radio show; writes for numerous print and online publications; has three (3) books about to be released; has a talk show pilot in development; and was recently named as host of the television show “Los Angeles Philanthropic Endeavors.” However, Dr. Leigh-Davis appears confident in her choice and maintains, “I have been in this business a long time and I know news broadcasters gain credibility with the public, by being real, even if it means being unpopular. Most intelligent people can ‘agree to disagree.’ Of course, sometimes race and gender will be something necessary for me to discuss. For example, if O.J. Simpson were to be re-sentenced to twice the sentence of similarly situated white defendants. However, in this case, my focus would be criminal sentencing, with race being a sub-issue. My personal choice is, to not engage in lengthy discussions where the main issue is race or gender.”
Dr. Leigh-Davis is considering elaborating further on her controversial position on race and gender discussions, in either print or future television appearances. Currently, Dr. Leigh-Davis is concentrating on the upcoming release of her three (3) books.
“The Real Deal” radio show, hosted by Dr. Leigh-Davis, airs Live on Blog Talk Radio every Wednesday at 10PM Pacific Time.
