19th Edgewater Arts & Music Festival, and 7th Annual Vintage Auto Show
Riverside, family-friendly arts and music festival, plus antique car show. Live bands and restaurant-quality fare. Local artists compete in juried art show for prizes. Road blocked-off for safe walking, and all-day jitneys (free buses) to festival.
Edgewater, NJ, September 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- After a hectic work week, nothing may be better than taking a stroll by the Hudson, and relaxing in the park in Edgewater, NJ: On Sunday, September 12th, come visit the historic Shadyside section of Old River Road in Edgewater, for two fun-filled family-style shows: The 19th Annual Arts & Music Festival, and The 7th Annual Vintage Auto Show.
Sit and listen to live music by the bands Freddie Bryant, and the Kaleidescope Trio. Also, roam freely among local artists’ exhibits, eat and drink amongst street tables, or check out the restaurants which are open all day. Other activities of the 19th Annual Edgewater Arts & Music Festival will include: Wearable Art demonstrations, informal lecture/discussions on photography & the arts, as well as the Vintage Auto Show (car design). The Edgewater Cultural & Historical Committee, which is sponsoring the 7th Annual Vintage Auto Show, will hold the event in big parking lot across River Road, at the famed “Edgewater Commons.” Awards include “Best Ford produced in Edgewater” from 1930-1955.
According to Neda Rose, founder and President of the Edgewater Arts Council (which co-sponsors the annual festival), "attendance has averaged an aggregate of 2,500 for the last few years" [quote from BergenNews.com]. The Edgewater Arts Council’s official tent will be near the corner of Thompson Lane.
BergenNews.com mentions that a classy 1939 LaSalle convertible with an infamous past will be on display at the auto show: "The shiny black car to be exhibited by Jerry McSpirit of Alpine was once reportedly owned by crime boss Albert Anastasia, who back in those days lived on the Palisades in Fort Lee. The Spanish stucco home was later occupied by comedian Buddy Hackett."
Old River Road’s Shadyside section has developed into a mixed zone of restaurants, residential buildings, and businesses; yet it also hosts a park with two fountains, a bridge and a gazebo. Free shuttle buses, also called jitneys, will take attendees back and forth between the Arts and Auto shows all day. Beginning at 4pm, artist Awards and Prizes, totaling $3,000, are set to be announced on the Shadyside stage. At 4:30 pm, the Vintage Auto Awards are set to be announced. Guests are welcome to arrive at the Festival starting at 11am, but are advised to park in the Edgewater Commons Shopping Center; then take the bus to the festival. Visitors may traverse the grounds safely, because the Shadyside section of Old River Road is closed to vehicular traffic for the day.
Rain date for both the Annual Arts & Music Festival, and the 7th Annual Vintage Auto Show is Sunday, September 19th. These are Edgewater’s most popular cultural events, and have been sponsored variously by local businesses; patrons; the Borough of Edgewater; and in part by the Bergen County Division of Parks, through funds administered by the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs.
The Edgewater Arts Council, which produces the borough’s annual Arts & Music Festival, is a 501(c) 4, non-profit, non-partisan organization of volunteers created to broaden awareness of visual and performing arts. The Edgewater Cultural & Historical Committee has donated sculpture, vintage photos, and it has given the municipality framed prints of paintings depicting local scenes. The committee also created a gallery at the Community Center, and has produced jazz and classical concerts; held both indoors, and outside.
