Ocean Rower and Environmental Campaigner Roz Savage to Present in San Francisco at the Prestigious Dolphin Swimming and Boating Club at Hyde Street Pier
A late comer to the life of adventure, Roz Savage is the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. She will be in San Francisco, her second home, to present her story of dreams, adventure and sustainablility.
Sacramento, CA, September 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Ocean rower and environmental campaigner, Roz Savage, comes to San Francisco to give public presentation.
In June 2010 Roz Savage became the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. A 6-week, 12-city speaking tour of the US and Canada aims to raise funds for her environmental mission and next adventure: a solo row across the Indian Ocean in 2011. If successful, she will be the first woman to row the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Roz Savage will be appearing in San Francisco on 10/1/10. She will be presenting at The Dolphin Club at six pm– minimum donation is $10 at the door. The Dolphin Club is located at 502 Jefferson Street.
The presentation includes exclusive footage shot during her voyages, featuring stormy weather, wildlife encounters, equipment failures, and the psychological highs and lows of an epic endeavor. She will talk about what inspired her to take up her oars in the fight for a cleaner, greener future. She applies the lessons learned in the crucible of the open ocean to the challenges facing us all at this pivotal moment in human history. She leads by example, emphasizing the power of the individual and his or her solitary actions in order to make a global difference.
Savage's documentary "Rowing the Atlantic" recently toured 34 countries with the Banff Mountain Film Festival. The event will feature video excerpts from her adventure documentary.
The event includes a book signing and questions from the audience.
Roz Savage, age 42, says, "My Pacific row is the perfect metaphor for how we as individuals have the power to make a difference. The journey from San Francisco to Hawaii took me about one million oar strokes. I could have sat under the Golden Gate Bridge and despaired, thinking that one oar stroke would make no difference. But if you take a million tiny actions and add them all together, you can achieve anything. That’s how I slowly but surely made my way across 2,600 miles of ocean to Hawaii - one stroke at a time.”
Together, with her solo row across the Atlantic in 2005-6, she has rowed over 11,000 miles, taken 3.5 million oar strokes, and spent cumulatively nearly a year of her life at sea in a 23-foot rowboat.
Savage is an avid technology enthusiast and enjoys sharing her adventures through a variety of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube. She regularly blogs and records podcasts. Savage also uses EpicTracker, an interactive mapping system that enables people around the world to follow her on the ocean in real time.
