Cornell Estates to Host Local Artist Victoria Shepard

Hillsboro, OR, September 10, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As part of the Artist at Cornell program, area resident and artist Victoria Shepard will be on hand to share her beautiful oil paintings titled “A Feeling of Calmness.” The program will be held at Cornell Estates, a premier retirement & assisted living facility in Portland, OR on Friday, September 10th at 1:30 pm. Shepherd says, “This group of paintings is mainly about a feeling—a feeling of calmness. My goal in this series is to convey a state of rest and renewal, to take the viewer to a place where the business of the mind is absent, where nature rules and wonder prevails. My goal and continued challenge is to accomplish this effect with the fewest number of strokes necessary.”

Victoria’s art has developed along an unstructured path. Over the years she has studied alongside many artists in their studios. Through this education, she has come to see the world differently: that is, that reality has more to do with impression than fact. Although she works with acrylic and pastel, her favorite medium is oil on canvas. She said, “I paint because it is the one thing I do in my life that enables me to feel totally alone. This solitude brings me closer to my essence than any other personal act.”

Shepard is the treasurer and past president of Hillsboro Community Arts and is also on the board of Sequoia Gallery & Studios in Hillsboro where she presently shows her work. She was most recently given The Council of Presidents’ Award in this February’s Beaverton Showcase for her oil painting “Some Shells.”
