New Children’s Book Tells Tall Tale of Cat Who Plays Hockey; Book by Rollo J. Pondmarsh, Released by Dog Ear Publishing
Paris, KY, September 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- What’s a cat to do when his owner names him after the captain of a hockey team? Stevie Y is about to find out. Although he’s got some natural talent, Stevie must practice hard to learn how to play. Luckily, he’s got a sister, Gracie, a born athlete, and some friends, Stumpy, Sergei, Gordy (also named after hockey players) to help him learn the skills of this challenging sport. A big loft in the barn becomes his training ground, and a corral fence helps hone his balance. A chance happening leads him to think he might train to be a goalie.
In Hockey Cat, published by Dog Ear Publishing, set on a small farm in Ontario, Canada, Stevie uses his wits and sense of humor to help him relax during his attempt to become the first cat to play goalie. His practices on the icy pond become so popular even the mice come to see him. A school coach willing to take a chance and some understanding teammates give Stevie the confidence to take to the ice. The charming illustrations bring the action to life in this heartwarming story that shows how determination and hard work can bring amazing results.
Author Rollo J. Pondmarsh, a semi-retired ichthyologist, manages a fish farm near Pinconning, Mich. He and his wife live with the real-life Stevie Y and Gracie.
Illustrator Maria Rodriguez uses acrylics and oils to create her paintings. She lives in Grosse Point, Mich., with her three children and has a bachelor’s degree in marketing and art from Loyola University in Chicago. After graduation, she owned and operated Zeus Gallery in Chicago, representing herself and artists from around the world.
