*Nassunni is a visual artist, designer, poet, and performer of spoken word. She hails from the diverse city of New York, with positive influences from: Islam, R&B, hip-hop, pop-rock, and everyday life experiences that flows through words right from her soul. Not your ordinary poet, Nassunni was inspired to write at the tender age of 10 after meeting poet/activist Nikki Giovanni on the playground of an apartment complex in uptown Manhattan. Later on she pursued a career in acting and appeared in several television commercials. But it wasn't until she moved to Philadelphia that her interest in the arts grew. Enrolling in the Philadelphia Art Institute, and joining McDowell & Edwards theatrical group, NASSUNNI was cast as the lead character in "When Colored Girls Commit Suicide When The Rainbow Is Not Enuf", directed by Leamon Troublefield.
*Tasleem Jamila Firdausee released a CD, DVD and has published several books and magazines. Currently she is part of the Malcolm X project with the release of the three unpublished Chapters; on the compilation CD and poems in the book to be released with the project. A editor also, she is working an upcoming Anthology: Crossing Limits; a book featuring Muslim and Jewish American Poets. Later this year in November, she will also be releasing a new Spring Fashion Collection: "Firdausee". Tasleem is currently studying Naturopath Holistic Medicine and Healing.
* Ayhan Aslam was born on the pavements of NYC and raised by the tall mountains of Williamstown Massachusetts--a place she still considers home today. She is of Tanzanian, Balochi and Indian decent and is a poet. She is currently a undergraduate college student at NYU pursuing a Bachelors in English and education where she hopes to inspire inner city youth behind a classroom. Her main influences are Prophet Muhammad PBUH, Huey Newton, Martin Luther, Malcolm X, Lemon, Suheir Hammad, Mehdi Bray, Nas, etc. Hip hop is her medium to touch the world. She is also an
activist.
* Tha Wordsmith- K. S. Llanos (born March 2nd, 1986 in NewArk, New Jersey) is a low profile American poet, rapper, musician, singer, writer, visual artist, vocal composer, and photographer. As a child raised in Miami FL from the age of 2, Llanos was constantly exposed to the realms of Hip Hop due to her father's love of DJing. Music was a central part of her home but her focus on music had not been in the forefront of her growing talents. Inherited through her father, also an artist, Llanos' first love was the freedom of Art, Expression then Penmanship.
* Melinda "Poeta Guerrera" González is a PhD student at Rutgers University- New Brunswick in the department of Anthropology and a graduate of Barnard College in New York City, Melinda is a Puerto Rican spoken word artist from Newark, NJ and Moca, PR. Her research interests, like her poetry, are informed by her life-experiences as a first-generation American born Boricua struggling to make sense of her identity while attempting to have peace of mind in her every-day life. Currently, Melinda is researching lyrical arts as resistance and anti-resistance and a nexus of identity formation in Oaxaca, Mexico.
* DaMuslimahDiva is known for her lyrics and delivery that intertwines Islamic faith with sense of style and an inspirational outlook on life with the message of the modern day Muslimah’s point of view through spoken word or over hip-hop beats. DaMuslimaDiva’s lyrical content is an expression of her experiences and view points through the eyes of a Muslim woman representing the Islamic community and Muslim sisters while dispensing the myths of the stereotypical humdrum Muslimah.
