Online Conflict Resolution the Focus of the Latest Issue of IDP
Barcelona, Spain, September 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The resolution of conflicts arising on the web is the focus of issue number 10 of the journal. It offers analysis of the different rules with which the relationships occurring on the internet are structured and fostered. It also studies the impact of information and communication technologies on political institutions.
The dossier comprises a selection of articles resulting from the International Workshop on ADR/ODR, which was held on 15 September 2009 at the UOC – The Open University of Catalonia. Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) is understood as a channel for the resolution of disputes outside or in collaboration with the judicial authorities. The conference organiser and coordinator of the dossier was Esther Vilalta. Prestigious leading figures from academia and the business world linked to ODR played an active part in the conference, which produced high-level and interesting debate.
The IDP dossier also includes articles such as the one by Pablo Cortés, which focuses on a proposal for fostering the development of ODR in the EU with the aim of contributing to the development of the internal market. Other articles include the one by Orna Rabinovich-Einy, which calls for a reconsideration of the relationship between the electronic resolution of disputes and traditional mechanisms for resolving disputes.
The reform of the Intellectual Property Committee
This issue also includes the article by Pablo Ferrándiz on the reform of the Spanish Ministry of Culture’s Intellectual Property Committee. It tackles a controversial question that has led to a significant mobilisation on the internet in one sphere: the protection of intellectual property on the internet. This is a question where law and society are still poles apart. The author analyses the extent of the proposed reform and questions whether attributing the public administration with the power to resolve disputes between private individuals in questions relating to intellectual property is in line with constitutional principles.
Academic activities and legal news
The new issue of IDP is completed with the academic activities section which includes Presentation of Doctoral Theses in Law by Ana Maria Delgado, with details on the doctoral theses presented by Law and Political Science students on the UOC's Information and Knowledge Society doctoral programme. It also includes the article by Raquel Xalabarder entitled Workshop on Use and Abuse of Peer-to-Peer Filesharing. The aim of the workshop was to assess and look more deeply at the study of the different legal implications derived from the mass use of peer-to-peer filesharing programs.
