Proactive Medical Management Assists with Proposed OSHA Regulation Changes
Queens, NY, September 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- JFK Medport and Insight Diagnostics, Inc. (IDI) have formed a strategic alliance that provides state of the art technology for the diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue injuries, enhancement of employee productivity and assisting employers with new Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandatory reporting reforms.
Effective January 2011 if an injury occurs in the work place that meets the definition of a Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) and it involves lost time at work or work restrictions, then it must be recorded on the OSHA 300 form as an MSD.
The EFA is the only test recognized to evaluate an injury against OSHA's definition of an MSD, and is able to put a timeline on an injury. Therefore if the EFA finds that an employee is able to work with no restrictions, or could be transferred to another job to prevent further injury with no lost work time, the incident will not count as an OSHA recordable case.
The EFA would help employers lower their recordable case rate and lost time incident rates. This is important to all employers whose customers set high standards for safety performance and monitor the OSHA incident rates of their contractors and vendors. The EFA can help employers improve the accuracy of their record keeping and avoid potential citations and fines.
“The EFA can assist the clinician in determining mechanism of injury and causation as well as whether the injury is new, chronic or an exacerbation of a pre-existing condition. This ability combined with the expertise of JFK Medport will have a huge impact on lost workday case rates,” said MaryRose Cusimano-Reaston, Ph.D. President Insight Diagnostics Inc.
“Our partnership with Insight will allow us to determine if there is impairment that prevents individuals from doing any task. We foresee with the assistance of the EFA being able to determine when there is no impairment. With objective information we will able to determine if the case is not recordable then restricted days would not be logged. Previously any transfer of duty would have resulted in a recordable case and restricted duty days,” said Gerald Surya, M.D. Medical Director JFK Medport.
