Women’s eNews' "Memo" Wins Award from National Women’s Political Caucus
NWPC honors Women's eNews' report on the status of women in the U.S.
New York, NY, September 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Women’s eNews' 2008 Status Report on U.S. Women, The Memo, written by editor in chief Rita Henley Jensen has won the daily, online, independent news service a second Exceptional Merit in Media award (EMMA) from the National Women’s Political Caucus. Other winners include Ms. Magazine for the story The Scandal of Military Rape by Helen Benedict, and the feature film Precious, based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire.
The Memo and the following eight-part news series was published over 2008 as a guide for delegates at the national Democratic and Republican conventions being held across the country. The status update drew attention to the gendered wage gap and barriers to employment; reproductive health; violence against women and homophobia.
In their findings of particular merit the EMMA Judges Committee cited:
Jensen is untiring in her journalistic mission to bring a womens perspective to the news. The site not only succeeds in showing how women define their own lives, but it is a model for honest, authentic story telling that women can trust.
