Snug as a Bat in a Box

Solihull, United Kingdom, September 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- With the advent of their new Improved Bat Boxes, The Nestbox Company from Solihull, UK has come up with a novel design to provide home comforts for British bats. Their new boxes are warmer inside and more comfortable than traditional bat homes.

Peter Bubb, from the Nestbox Company, commented, “These new boxes represent the ultimate in bat comfort. They have been designed to be draft free, warm, and any time of the day or night give the bats a choice of different temperatures in different parts of the same box. More comfort for the bats is good news for humans too, as it helps conservation of these protected animals.”

During a study in July this year, the new Improved boxes averaged 1 to 2 degrees centigrade higher than the best traditional boxes, and because they retained their heat longer, had more stable temperatures inside, and kept warm longer overnight. Different compartments inside the boxes had different temperatures, enabling the bats to move around inside to find their preferred comfort zones at different times of the day.

Roosting temperatures are important to bat populations, and with the UK’s variable and temperate weather, providing bat boxes with the right thermal properties helps to create more suitable roosts. Better bat box design enables more effective habitat replacement, which in turn contributes to the conservation efforts for the UK’s bat species.

The Improved Bat Boxes, which are available ready to use, are on sale at various outlets and online at http://www.nestbox.co.uk/Bat-Boxes

Notes to Editors

The Nest Box Company is based in Eastcote, Solihull, West Midlands

The business commenced making nest boxes in 1996, and has grown to become one of the largest nest box manufacturers in the UK. It has a long tradition of designing and creating nesting boxes for British birds and mammals.

The Nestbox Company supplies a diversity of clients, large and small. Among the larger customers are The National Trust, the Countryside Council for Wales, Natural England, the Royal Parks, Wildlife Trusts, the Woodland Trust, the Peoples Trust for Endangered Species and numerous County and District Councils. Nestbox Company’s boxes are to be found on buildings and within gardens, fields, and woodland throughout the UK and much further afield.

The range of nest boxes has been designed after full consultation with experts including the RSPB, the Barn Owl Trust, ZSL London Zoo, the Bat Conservation Trust and the People's Trust for Endangered Species. In addition to nest boxes, the company has introduced feeders for birds and small animals, and insect houses. All have been developed with the needs of the users (i.e. the wildlife) uppermost, but, without making any compromises on function, the products are designed to look good to their human purchasers, and enhance the look of any home or garden.

With such a wide range of products, all sensitively designed to benefit wildlife, the Nestbox Company has supplied a growing number of boxes etc to wildlife professionals and their clients for use in habitat mitigation, particularly in building and construction projects.

The Nestbox Company manufactures its products in its own rural workshops, and utilises modern production technology (including cutting many of its panels using computer controlled routers), and traditional finishing by craftsmen.

Enquiries are welcomed from wildlife organisations and professionals, as well as from the retail trade, estate managers, and bulk quantity buyers.

In 2008, the Nestbox Company was acquired by Enjoy Birds More Limited, a small family business who specialise in camera products for wildlife watching. The Nestbox Company continues as an independent part of the Enjoy Birds More Group.
