Main Street Power Awarded 4.5MW of Distributed Solar Projects for San Diego Unified School District
San Diego, CA, September 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Main Street Power Company, Inc., a national solar developer, based in Boulder, Colorado announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the San Diego Unified School District’s Board to build, own and operate 4.5 megawatts of distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on approximately 36 sites across the San Diego School District. Main Street Power was awarded these projects in response to a competitive request for proposals issued by the District. Partnering with Main Street to handle the labor and installation work is Southern California based Moore Electric.
The clean electricity produced over the life of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 4.5 megawatt of solar installations will save an estimated 88,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions. This is equivalent to removing 10,650,000 vehicle miles off the road per year.
“This is a great day for the District and the students of SDUSD. Working together we are going to help the district save money, lower their carbon foot print and deliver solar education for students. You could not find a better example of a true public private partnership,” stated Main Street Power’s Senior Vice President Jonathan Postal.
Under the PPA program, Main Street will own and operate the systems on SDUSD schools for 20 years, selling clean green solar energy at a discount to local rates. In addition, Main Street Power will be holding a professional development course to provide SDUSD teachers with student workshops and a K-12 science curriculum developed in accordance with national education standards.
