Women’s eNews and New York Historical Society Open the Way to Women’s History

A new walking tour celebrates women's history in downtown Manhattan.

New York, NY, September 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Women’s eNews is partnering with the New York Historical Society to launch “Opening the Way,” a walking tour that celebrates women’s history in downtown Manhattan. The walk honors 21 women spanning three centuries, including journalists and abolitionists, as well as three heroes who gave their lives on September 11, 2001.

The women’s history walking tour was inspired by the relocation of the Women’s eNews office last year to 6 Barclay Street and has been undergoing rapid expansion alongside the re-launch under the new title, "Opening the Way."

The next stage will see the release of a self-guided downloadable audio tour recorded by, amongst others, Kathleen Turner, Tonya Lewis Lee, Lynn Sherr, and Gloria Steinem who will become the voices of the historical figures in the exciting new version of the walk.

The Women’s eNews and New York Historical Society partnered tour will be led by its authors – former New York Times editor Betsy Wade and founding editor of the Columbia Journalism Review and historian James Boylan – and marks the major launch of the women’s history tour previewed in 2009.

For further information on the tour call Rita Henley Jensen, 212 244 1720 or visit the tour’s official web page: www.womensenews.org/openingtheway
