Author with Groundbreaking Codorus Press Available to Speak on the Future of Independent Publishing

Scott B. Pruden, author of the new novel "Immaculate Deception," is available to speak to the media regarding his experience with independent small publisher Codorus Press and the future of publishing in the new, more democratic environment of the 21st century.

New York, NY, September 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Plenty of authors are taking advantage of the revolution in publishing, and Scott B. Pruden, whose first novel, Immaculate Deception, was recently released by Codorus Press of New York, is one of those who is doing it well.

Now the West Chester, Pa.-based author is determined to spread the gospel of how high-quality work by independent small presses can give the “publishing industrial complex” a run for its money.

Pruden began his career as a newspaper journalist in his home state of South Carolina and went on to become a successful freelancer in the Philadelphia market and beyond before turning to fiction. He’s eager to share with media outlets his experiences regarding the dramatic changes in the publishing industry at the dawn of the 21st century.

After approaching dozens of publishers and agents about his book over nearly a decade, Pruden saw publication this year as a member of Codorus Press, a publishing collective bringing together talented individuals who contribute to each others’ work being offered to the public.

“There are plenty of authors working outside the traditional publishing structure, and a lot of them are doing great things – comparable to or better than what’s being done by traditional, ‘big’ publishers,” Pruden says. “I believe the huge steps being made right now by small, independent presses like Codorus will set the course for the next few decades of book publishing.”

Codorus Press, an Astoria, N.Y.-based collective of talented individuals who collaborate to bring high-quality volumes to market, has already proven that with the proper measure of talent and tenacity it is possible to produce great books outside the traditional publishing structure.

Significant inspiration for the creation of Codorus was provided by the publication of the Beat writers of the 1950s and ’60s through Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s City Lights Booksellers & Publishers in San Francisco, Totem Press (Amiri Baraka), Black Sun Press (Harry Crosby) and Hogarth Press (Virginia Woolf), going back to the beginning of the 20th century.

Today, Codorus Press comprises nearly a half-dozen individuals with a broad spectrum of skills and experience very similar to that you would find at a traditional publishing house, from plot and structure coaching, to design, to marketing and promotion.

“In fact, with Codorus Press and other small publishers, there's more nurturing and attention being given than often happens at a big house,” Pruden says.

As the first offering from Codorus Press, Immaculate Deception sets the bar high in both the quality of the narrative and the publication itself.

“I’m proud to be associated with Codorus Press, both because of the level of professionalism they’ve brought to the process and because it’s given me the opportunity to work with people I truly respect to bring this novel to fruition,” Pruden says. “Much like indie bands are considered the future of music, I believe independent publishing endeavors like Codorus Press will set a precedent for a wide array of emerging authors to bring their work before the public in new and unconventional ways.”
