For Those with a Penchant for Italian Language and Culture: Lo Spazio in Collina

Lo Spazio in Collina (LSC) is as close as it gets in New York City to enjoying the bella vita while learning the bella lingua. The Italian school's' mission is to offer Italian language classes in an authentic cultural setting and context: classes include an introduction to Italian culinary arts, wine, and film. Registration for group and individual classes is ongoing. School is located in a cozy townhouse on 96th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues.

New York, NY, January 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Spanking brand new the Italian language center Lo Spazio in Collina (LSC) has already established that Italian is the new French. What sets the center apart from other Italian language schools in the city is its salon setting for learning. Depending on the time of your class, you’ll be served either cappuccino or sparkling Prosecco while learning the language of Armani and Prada. Driven by not only fashion but also aesthetics, lovers of Italian culture are finding that Lo Spazio in Collina, set in a cozy townhouse on 96th Street between Park and Lexington, is as close as it gets in New York City to enjoying the bella vita while learning the bella lingua.

Growing up tri-lingual in Switzerland, studying in Milan, and working years as a teacher of French and Italian, LSC director Patrizia Saglio moved to New York in 1998. After a stint as co-owner and manager of an international trade company, Patrizia decided to open the Italian cultural center in Manhattan with Cristina Melotti, a language teacher, accomplished painter, and curator whose father, a well-known Italian artist, bred in his daughter a long-lasting love of language, culture, and the arts. The co-directors’ mission is to offer Italian language classes in an authentic cultural setting and context: classes include an introduction to Italian culinary arts, wine, and film. Language and culture classes, such as Italian through Theater, taught by Laura Caparrotti, artistic director of an international theater group, and Italian through Decorative Painting, taught by well-known designer Lucretia Moroni of Fatto A Mano, are also offered for adults and children.

The latest news at Lo Spazio is the expansion of the children’s programming, including additional hours for the Girotondo, Arte Insieme, and Teatro Italiano classes. The kids' program offers comprehensive language learning and hands-on instruction in the arts to children of all ages. Girontondo (“Circle”), for children ages 2-5, encourages learning Italian through play and activities: games, songs, dances, story telling, and film (Disney movies in Italian!). In Arte Insieme, an art and crafts workshop, groups of 3-5 and 6-8 year olds draw, paint, make collages, and create 3D works. The kids are taught Italian through hands-on art projects, including stenciling, printing t-shirts, making puppets, and designing and painting theater sets. In Teatro Italiano children ages 7-12 write stories, act, select or play music, design costumes, and sets while working toward a final performance, all in Italian. For teens, group and private classes as well as tutoring services are available weekdays and Saturdays.

Registration for group and individual classes is ongoing.
