Tour d’Afrique, Famed for Epic Cycling Adventures, Announces First-Ever, Four-Week Odyssey in Turkey

Tour d'Afrique's Spotlight on Turkey - a new four-week cycling adventure that takes riders from Ankara to Istanbul while exploring the historical and natural beauty of this modern country

Toronto, Canada, September 26, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Tour d’Afrique (http://www.tourdafrique.com/), the company that introduced the world to multi-country, cross-continental cycling tours, announces Spotlight on Turkey, a new four-week cycling adventure that takes riders from Ankara to Istanbul while exploring the historical and natural beauty of this modern country.

“Turkey is, hands down, one of the most fascinating countries in Europe,” says Tour d’Afrique founder and director Henry Gold. “It is has an abundant number of Greek ruins, beautiful scenery and a vibrant and fascinating culture. Combine the delectable cuisine and otherworldly sites such as Cappadocia and you have a very compelling tourist destination where there is truly something for everyone.”

The 2,100 km (1,305 mile) route visits the Christian caves in Cappadocia, the remnants of the Mehlevi/Rumi in Konya, the Lycian ruins along the Mediterranean and the Greek/Roman ruins of the Aegean. Riders depart Ankara, Turkey Sept. 4, 2011 and celebrate the journey’s end in Istanbul Oct. 2, 2011.

Cyclists spend 21 days in the saddle for an average of 100 km (62 miles) per day, and seven days at leisure for rest and sightseeing. The concept is to experience Turkey’s contemporary culture and memorable cuisine while taking the time to explore in-depth the region’s vibrant history.

The trip from start to finish is €3,400 per person. Tour d’Afrique offers a €200 per person discount if full tour payment is made on or before March 4, 2011. Unlike many of Tour d’Afrique’s epic tours which may include some camping, all of the accommodations on this tour are in family hotels/pensions including the night before departure in Ankara and the night of the day of arrival in Istanbul.

Tour d’Afrique provides the framework and support systems, including: tour staff, nutritious meals (all breakfasts, roadside lunch on riding days & dinner on riding days except the day before a rest day), accommodations, daily routes and logistics, optional side trips (additional cost), and the overland vehicles that transport personal baggage each day.

Tour highlights include the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cappadocia and its eerie underground cities, a chance to experience the hypnotic dances of the Whirling Dervishes in Konya, the winding back roads and small villages of the Taurus Mountains, the stunning coastlines of the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, and the historic sites of Ephesus, Pergamon and Troy.
