Changing the World One T-Shirt at a Time
Phoenix, AZ, January 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- What do you get when you cross a 13 year old girl with a desire to change the world? You get philanthroteens, a GoodStorm eStore at www.goodstorm.com/stores/philanthroteen .
Philanthroteens is an idea originated by 13 year-old Landry Low, a Paradise Valley, Arizona middle school student with a big goal for raising funds for Hearts of Stone, a Phoenix, Arizona based non-profit organization.
“Hearts of Stone does things for at risk kids all over the world. Their big project right now is to pay off the mortgage on Casa de Sueños, a house that Hearts of Stone purchased the oldest orphanage in Costa Rica, for the teenage orphaned boys to live in,” said Landry. “Hearts of Stone owes $70,000 on the house, so I figured if I set my goal to raise $100,000, that would pay off the house and give the orphanage some extra money to do some additional things with the remainder.”
Landry is no stranger to philanthropy work; at 8 years old she set a goal of raising $600 for a company called Nourish the World (now known as Nourish the Children). In 5 days she raised over $4800 and was recognized as the Junior Humanitarian of the Year by Nourish the World founder, Frank Davis and Pharmanex, the company that had recently purchased Nourish the World. She also raised $1100 of the down payment on Casa de Sueños.
“The best way to make a difference is to take what you know and apply some creativity. Clothes and fashion are what I know best so I thought that this would be the perfect way to make a difference, while still doing what I love. I wanted to create a word that defines teenagers trying to make a difference, and that’s where “philanthroteen” comes from. Buying and wearing a Philanthroteens t-shirt is a way that teens and their parents can support a worthwhile cause while still wearing something cute,” added Landry.
Hearts of Stone is a grass roots organization founded by Steve Sanchez, to touch the lives of children around the globe. It seems only fitting to have a child getting creative to help other children around the world. To donate or learn more about Hearts of Stone go to www.heartsofstone.org.
