New e-Prescribing Software Simplifies Prescribing of Home Medical Equipment
Southaven, MS, September 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Dream Software has created a Web-based product which automates the Medicare patient qualification and documentation process for home medical equipment prescriptions, allowing HME providers to receive all mandatory paperwork – completed accurately and in its entirety – in real time from physicians along with the prescription.
Dream Referral, which launched in July, simplifies the prescribing process for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS) by utilizing a unique Medicare Rules Engine to generate the patient qualification documents required for Medicare claims. The Medicare Rules Engine walks practitioners through a series of patient diagnosis questions specific to the device that is being prescribed, indicates whether or not the patient meets Medicare qualification criteria, and then instantaneously generates the certificate of medical necessity (CMN), durable medical equipment information form (DIF) and other mandatory forms for the prescription. Once signed by the physician, the prescription and paperwork is electronically forwarded to the HME provider, giving the provider the information needed to fulfill the order and submit a Medicare claim. Dream Referral is the first e-prescribing software for home medical equipment and the only program that automates Medicare documentation.
"Dream Referral eliminates the hassle associated with completing time-intensive Medicare documentation," said CEO Mickey Letson. "Our new software simplifies prescribing for both physicians and HME providers by ensuring Medicare documentation is completed quickly and correctly, and it gives HME providers the assurance that they have all of the documentation needed to submit a Medicare claim."
Dream Referral is the first product from Dream Software. Dream Software, LLC was founded in April 2009 with a commitment to providing physicians and home medical equipment companies software solutions that simplify every-day business processes. The company’s founder and CEO, Mickey Letson, has more than 23 years of experience working in the home medical device industry. He is the former owner of The Letco Companies, a group of heavily specialized companies focused in the home medical equipment industry.
According to a testimony given by Inspector General Daniel R. Levinson on Sept. 15 to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Health, Medicare payments for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS) totaled more than $10 billion and accounted for approximately two percent of all Medicare expenditures in 2009. CMS reported an error rate of 51.9 percent for Medicare DMEPOS claims in 2009.
