WIDS Promotes Leah Osborn; Hires Chris Shannon

The Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS), in Waunakee, Wis., recently promoted veteran instructional designer Leah Osborn to associate director-consulting services, and hired Chris Shannon as learning design consultant. WIDS is a non-profit organization providing learner-centered curriculum design software, training and consulting services to education and corporate clients across the globe.

Waunakee, WI, September 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Osborn, of Columbia, Conn., who has been with WIDS for 10 years, will serve WIDS in a new capacity – drawing on more than 20 years experience as an instructional designer, dean and teacher. As associate director-consulting services, she will be a key player on the WIDS Leadership Team. In her new role, she will consult with clients to develop customized instructional design and/or training services packages specific to each client’s needs; manage and oversee all consulting and training contracts; and coordinate the work of WIDS learning design consultants. Additionally, Osborn will continue to devote a portion of her time to delivery of frontline training and consulting services to K-12, two-year college, university and business clients.

“We are fortunate to have Leah step into this role as she is a highly skilled instructional designer with broad experience and a deep understanding of the WIDS consulting process,” said WIDS Director Judy Neill. “Leah’s previous experience and accomplishments have prepared her to hit the ground running.”

During her time with WIDS, Osborn has successfully led the alignment of Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) programs; facilitated statewide curriculum revision of WTCS teacher recertification courses; taught workshops on outcome-based learning and assessment; and facilitated client planning and implementation of learning outcome and assessment strategies that align institutional outcomes. From 1986-1997 Osborn served Moraine Park Technical College, in Fond du Lac, Wis., as a curriculum writer, instructor, Tech Prep curriculum specialist, associate dean and dean. She holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from University Texas, in Austin, a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts education from University of Vermont, in Burlington, and an associate’s degree in computer integrated manufacturing from Moraine Park Technical College.

Shannon, of Stoughton, Mass., comes to WIDS with the career and technical education experience needed by so many WIDS’ K-12 and two-year college clients, according to Neill. “We are delighted to have Chris as part of our expert learning design team,” said Neill. “She brings high energy, along with training and facilitation skills that she will apply in a variety of settings.”

Shannon transitions to WIDS from Bristol Community College in Fall River, Mass., where she oversaw regional state and federal programming; developed and coordinate career education pipeline initiatives; and researched the labor market, educational reform and policy trends. As a WIDS learning design consultant, Shannon will provide instructional design consulting services to college, university, K-12 and corporate clients throughout the United States.

Shannon, who has designed more than 30 education and workforce development workshops, also served as a secondary and post secondary instructor/counselor for 16 years. She holds a master’s degree in fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, and bachelor degrees in both theatre and secondary education: English from the University of Delaware, in Newark.

A nonprofit division of the Wisconsin Technical College System Foundation Inc. (WTCSF), WIDS offers advanced tools and personal support to help clients design effective learner-centered curriculum.
