Litera and Biscom Announce Interoperability of Their Market-Leading E-mail Security Products for the Legal Industry
Document Lifecycle Management and Secure File Transfer Leaders Partner to Reduce the Risk of Unintentional Disclosure of Confidential Information over E-mail.
McLeansville, NC, September 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Litéra®, the leader in global document lifecycle management (DLM), and Biscom, the most trusted name in secure file transfer technology, announced today that the Biscom Delivery Server (BDS) application and Litera’s Metadact® metadata management applications interoperate seamlessly in a Microsoft Outlook environment.
The combination of Metadact and BDS offers added protection to law firm e-mail communications by reducing the risk of unintentional disclosure of confidential data and protecting against potential data breaches caused by documents being transmitted over unsecure e-mail.
Upon sending an e-mail with attachments, Metadact automatically scans and removes the metadata from MS Office and PDF documents. The e-mail and attachments are then transferred as a secure, encrypted BDS delivery. An e-mail will be rerouted as a BDS delivery either on demand by the sender or based on pre-configured policies, including key words, attachment size and file type.
Biscom Delivery Server is a managed file transfer application that allows users to send and receive large files, easily and securely. BDS has been selected by a growing number of AMLAW 200 law firms to replace cumbersome FTP, better manage large e-mail attachments and comply with the growing list of data breach regulations.
“Law firm IT organizations are challenged with an increasing number of application plug-ins they must manage that tend to have interoperability issues and impact e-mail performance,” said Charlie Magliato, Biscom’s Legal Practice Manager. “We are pleased that BDS operates seamlessly with Metadact, providing law firms with advanced protection of confidential documents without changing sender behavior.”
Metadact® combines the best of Out-of-Sight® and Metadata Sweeper® to bring you a metadata management utility that reduces the risk of unintentional disclosure of confidential information embedded in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF documents electronically exchanged with outside parties. This user-friendly utility provides a mechanism to analyze and clean documents before they are sent out. It integrates with multiple e-mail systems so users are prompted to remove metadata from documents attached to e-mails prior to sending.
“Our goal is to continue to provide clients with applications that seamlessly operate in their environment without conflicts with other applications or additional management complexity,” said Ken Hamlin, Chief Commercial Officer of Litéra. “The combination of our metadata management applications and BDS gives customers a secure document management offering with leading data protection for Microsoft Outlook.”
