Editors Only Article - The Scoop on Mobile Editions
Announcing the publication of a new article by research editor Meredith Dias in the September 2010 issue of Editors Only.
New Britain, CT, October 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In a new Editors Only article, "The Scoop on Mobile Editions," research editor Meredith Dias examines the pros and cons of mobile magazine editions. With smartphones expected to overtake computers as early as next year, Dias predicts an upcoming boom in mobile editions. She cites a recent RBC Capital Markets study, which predicts that smartphone sales will overtake computer sales by 2011.
Several editors and publishing executives weigh in with their thoughts on mobile editions. Nick Batzdorf, editor and publisher of Virtual Instruments magazine, discusses the explosion of iPhone use in his industry and the consequent practicality of an iPhone edition. Conversely, Kathy Storring, editor of Grand magazine (Ontario), has no plans for a mobile edition, as her publication is primarily print.
Ultimately, Dias concludes that the practicality of a mobile edition varies from magazine to magazine. However, she says, "if the projections hold and smartphones overtake computers as Internet browsing devices, all online magazines will need to be ready with mobile content."
