Hoteliers Start Hiring Again

A WageWatch poll of hotels in summer 2010 showed that rates for hourly employees are on the rise as demand for line level employees has been steadily increasing since the first quarter of this year.

Scottsdale, AZ, October 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- This year hotel owners have started to hire, and as a result, we are seeing upward pressure on wages particularly for hourly positions. A WageWatch poll of hotels in summer 2010 showed that rates for hourly employees are on the rise as demand for line level employees has been steadily increasing since the first quarter of this year. This is mainly attributed to increasing hotels occupancies across the U.S.

WageWatch’s Hospitality Industry Compensation Survey has data for over 4,000 hotel, casino, vacation ownership, and golf properties across the United States. As interest in hiring continues, many state lodging associations are helping their members by providing wage and salary information to ensure the members stay abreast of market trends. This year, eight state lodging associations worked with WageWatch to provide local, current compensation data reports to help them make accurate budgeting decisions and also to set pay scales in order to remain competitive. Special reports were released earlier this month for California, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Texas.

“Hospitality companies have maintained tight controls on pay for over two years through the fourth quarter of 2009, but now with upward compensation pressure returning they need reliable pay data and are participating in the leading hotel-industry compensation survey in record numbers. Hotels are using labor market statistics to ensure they remain competitive for certain skill sets; thereby, limiting their risk of having employees being hired away by competitors and turnover sky-rocketing,” said Travis Pullen, Director of Sales and Marketing for WageWatch.
