Sky Hog v1.2 Released in Apple's App Store for the iPhone & iPod Touch

Sky Hog attempts to breaks the mold as a challenging iPhone game app, using simple complexity to avoid being simply complex.

Round Rock, TX, October 06, 2010 --(PR.com)-- David Thornton, the developer of Sky Hog, recently released the latest version of his arcade game. In Sky Hog, players guide a plane piloted by a pig through various maze-like levels, tilting the iPhone or iPod Touch to navigate. The game was designed for those looking for a challenging experience that is also simple, intuitive and easy to learn.

While some games have elaborate rules to follow and an excess of buttons, gestures and menus to tangle with, there's an absence of complexity with Sky Hog. You just guide a plane upward, avoiding clouds and picking up coins and fuel along the way. If you talk to the developer, you'll find that this simplicity is intentional. "I've always been impressed with games that are brilliant in their simplicity, and that's the design philosophy I approach with my games," said Thornton, "Take a look at Solitaire, Tetris or even games like Tic-Tac-Toe and checkers. A lot of the best and most endearing ones have simple concepts."

While keeping things simple on the outside, the internals of the game are quite intricate. Thornton says that this was necessary in order to give people a great experience. "When people download your app, they expect it to be worth their time. This applies to even free ones," said Thornton, "Because my game focuses on a small core of features, more time is spent perfecting them." One of the ways Thornton created a better experience is by integrating a powerful physics engine to enhance player movement. A physics engine helps developers simulate how things work in the real world. "Players may not notice the physics I put into Sky Hog, and that's perfectly fine. If I did it right, the only thing they notice is that it feels more natural, and hopefully they'll enjoy the game more because of it."

Version 1.2 further fine tuned the gameplay as well as added 12 more levels, bringing the total to 32. "I'm very happy with how Sky Hog is evolving," said Thornton, "I'm always finding ways I can make it better." The game is on a frequent update schedule that promises to bring further enhancements as well as adjustments based on feedback from reviews and user ratings.

Sky Hog is now available for $.99 in the U.S. and is priced accordingly in other regions. The game is available for the iPhone & iPod Touch for devices running iOS 3.0 or later. You can purchase Sky Hog worldwide from Apple's App Store. Please visit dmtgames.wordpress.com for more information, including videos and screenshots of the game.
